building new AR

Ok you guys on here who have built or had buil an AR what parts or kits did you go with? What acuracy do you get out of it? Not sure what path I wana take. Its going to be a .223 cal. I reload so should be able to find a ggod round with out a problem. But I strive for acuracy and for me a 1 MOA rifle sucks better be 1/2 MOA or better. In a AR I would settle for 3/4 MOA

After the sudden and unexpected demise of the Gunbarn about a year ago I felt I had mourned the appropriate time and decided maybe it was time I moved on with my life and start looking for a new supplier of reloading componensts and guns. I took off my black veil and armband I had been wearing, left a wreath at the now-out-of-business Gunbarn, said a tearful fairwell, and started looking again. There had to be a another reputable gun shop/reloading supplier somewhere, but where I wondered?...

Do you all think useing different primers in the same load recipe will really make a huge difference in the performance of a given bullet.

Today at the range

Went down to the range today to sight in my new savage 22 mag and my triple deuce. Just put a Leopold on my 222 this fall so I had to sight it in. Finally sent back my Rem. 597 never to be seen again, it never worked right from the first time I shot it.

Anyway here are the results of 45 mins at the range.

Shot the .222 @ 100 yrds and ended up with a decent group.

I have been planning on doing this for sometime and just got around to doing it. Didnt turn out to bad. Kind of difficult to do with the fish nets. Just found some at wal mart now that its haloween time. Base coat of flat black then I stretched the fish net over it tight and held it in place with tooth pics and sprayed the green on. I did the bottom first and moved it around till scales lined up then...

I've gone green...

Guys,
Just picked up a new savage camo predator gun in 22.250. I going to put my .22 hornet up. This will be my first in this round. Just checking to see what you guys are shooting with this caliber. Range, pelt damage and so forth. Going to try and get it sighted in this weekend. I would like to see what grains you guys shoot for best groups and distance..

After a bit of research, I went ahead and ordered my 6.8 SPC barrel today. I decided to go with a 16" Recon profile 11:1 twist chambered in 6.8 SPC II. This barrel is stainless and is the lightest profile I could find in 6.8 SPC. I ordered the barrel and associated parts, from Bison Armory in Washington state. Ounces to grains Calculator

I was making some .58 cal bullets for deer season and was wondering how many grains the bullets weighed. Moral of the story; my bullets weigh 500.936 grains, 70 bullets weigh approximately 5 pounds.

time to sight in

Well, since deer season is just around the corner. I'm taking my 300 win mag out this weekend and do some sighting in at long range. I just added a nightforce 40moa rail to it for some extra scope adjustment. I'm hoping to get it all synced together for some hunting up to yards. I've never poked on over 600y so I've been cleaning the barrel up and making sure I have some good loads to try out this weekend.

Well I've been thinking about building another AR-15. I finally got rid of all my .223 AR's, except for one, that I'm keeping. I've been looking around and found the 6.8 SPC to be an interesting possibility. It looks as if I can use a standard upper receiver, of which I have one. It then looks like I'll simply need a 6-8 SPC chambered barrel, bolt, and magazines to be in business. I've found that there's actually two chambers for this caliber. A 6.8 SPC and a 6.8...

I have a couple hundred rounds that I reload with my V-max's and the lot is mixed rem. and Fed. brass. I havnt noticed any accuracy difference between the two lots. Anyone ever had any accuracy problems with different headstamps?? I have another lot of mixed Lc and PMC with crimped primers. I was thinking about loading a few to see any differences.

Making A Rifle Barrel/ Kentucky Long Rifle

Last night on the TV show "American Rifleman" there was a segment on three brothers in Tennessee that have been making Kentucky long rifles for over 40 years. I was surprised to learn that the barrel starts out as a piece of flat steel 4 inches wide, 3/8 inch thick, and 4 foot long. They make their guns completely by hand (no power tools). I have always been intrigued by how a barrel was made so acurate back years ago and this show got me to thinking. I did a Google search...

Ammo: Winchester Supreme 3" #4 Buck
Chock Tube: H.S. Strut Undertaker turkey .665 I.D.
One shot at 10,20,30,40,50,60 yard.
10 yard shot was standing offhand the rest where shot from sitting position with shooting sticks.

10 yards speaks for it's self even the wads...

This spring I bought a rem700 varmint 22-250,with a muellar 8.5-25 scope. Last week I got to shoot my first groundhog with it at 318 yards.I was very impressed with it! It is a shooter!

On shot guns that have screw in chokes is the barrel cyl. bore before the choke?? I am thinking about machining an adapter to put a turkey choke on to my single shot wich is full choke now. I know the transition inside has to be seamless, but that is not a problem. When I look down the barrel the choke is at the last inch of the barrel. What do you all think.

.222 reloading

Does anybody do any reloading for .222 rem. ? I'm working with a savage model 340 E, and I just cant seem to get a load it likes. Haven't tried alot as far as different powders or bullets. I'm currently loading 40gr. Nosler balistic tips. with Hogdon Benchmark powder. The best i've got it to do is a 1 1/4" group at 100yds. I would think that this gun is capable of better. If i go any heavier with the bullet they start to keyhole. Any suggestions are welcome.
