I went out duck hunting yesterday saw some ducks, even had some good shots. However like the title says.......
I could've gotten up, went outside beat my head on a tree 4 or 5 x's, came back inside grabbed 20 bucks off the counter, flushed it down the crapper and gone back to bed. Got out to my SW duck spot this morning @ 5:40 am. Yes I was a little excited and a tad early. I was set up and waiting on shooting light by 6:30 am. When it was finally light enough to shoot the show had already begun. Seems like it started with a fly bye from a hen wood duck.

I didn't get any pics, but I FINALLY took a doe tonight. Not a big one, but #1 for the year. I had to hurry, I can't let HoosierBuck get too far ahead of me. Also saved the lives of many other critters. For like 2 years I have seen this gray feral cat out in this spot. But it always seemed like when I saw the cat there were deer around in the Fall or Turkeys in the Spring. Finally saw some deer this evening. I have been out about 4 times since season started and have not seen anything. Finally tonight behind the house I saw a couple. One did not make it. I stuck her at 40 yards and she made it about 100 yards. About time I get one. We are going to leave it whole and try to roast it like a hog next weekend. I will post a pic of it later when I have one if I don't forget to take one.

Went out this morning before Ben's soccer game-saw 2 small bucks and 7 does, and one big turkey. One of the does gave me a nice 20 yards shot through the trees and caught one through the lungs. I donated her to the New Carlisle Food Pantry, and am now hunting for my freezer. Windy, rainy, 44 degrees. Not your typical early season bowhunting day, but they were moving pretty good! HB

I decided to add a second trail cam this year, so I bought one with infra red flash. I had already put out my existing trail cam and had a few pictures of some small bucks and a few does at one place I hunt. I decided to put the new camera at another property where I'd noticed a scrape had appeared near one of my stands. I put the camera out last Sunday afternoon, and figured I'd get back and check it today. Here's what I had.

went out today for the final day early season and ended up with only one goose. sorry no pic of the goose however I did get a pic of an egret that landed behind me.

I got the geese all put away and loaded the boat with ducks anxiously awaiting the duck opener. Hopefully I'll have something big and brown down so I can get to duck season.

I was wondering if anyone was doing any squirrel hunting? Illinois' season opens August first. I always look so forward to it, but this year I just couldn't get into it, and the days I was going to go it was so windy I didn't. I took a week of vacation last week, which turned into a lot of work and I couldn't drap my surry butt out of bed except for one day. I saw two, but didn't get a shot. I hit a new pond I picked up this year for some goose action this morning. It proved worthy. I knocked 4 geese out of one flock and they all had jewelry! I wish I had someone with this morning cause I bet that whole flock was sporting bands! Maybe I will get another shot at them later.

Been a fun few days chasing those fuzzy nut eaters...that is until today. I was talking to my wife on my cell phone more into the conversation when I heard something move quick down by my feet. I looked down and to my suprise was the first poisonous snake I have ever seen in the wild, a copper head in the trail I was on about 8 feet away...Boy was he mad and mean. Shot a crow off the field out back the other day.� It was still alive after the shot and the rest of the murder went absolutely crazy. � One lit in the field by it and I shot that one too.� Then when it tried to get up and fly the others dove at it and knocked it back down.� Finally they flew out about 1000 yards and settled down.� Strange creatures they are. � I have not seen a single crow land on that field since.�
