On the trucks the guys took down they didn't have a lot of room to take many supplies and like I said, they've been down there a couple of weeks already. They went down the weekend of Labor Day. I think if I made a regular habbit of doing storm work I would invest in at least a tent, a camp stove, and a refrigerator of some kind, maybe one that runs off of 12volt or something. Maybe a little pull behind trailer, like a U-Haul even. But normally they don't deal with total devestation like these hurricanes inflict.

But like Hoosierbuck says, I'm always amazed at how unprepared people are. People rush out and buy a couple of cases of bottled water. Why? I'd invest in about 6-5 gallon coolers and fill them with water at the house, and buy or save some 5 gallon buckets or even 50 or so milk jugs to fill to flush the toilets. There's always a rush to buy plywood to cover windows. What do they do with what they bough last year? Burn it or pay the garbage guys to haul off? I think I'd fix me some shutters and simply walk out and close them when the hurricanes got close. Heck, we don't usually even take our Christmas lights down!

For his age (I think he is about 28 or so) Russell is quite responsible. He's been my assistant for 5 years now I think it is, and does a great job. He's dependable, trustworthy, honest, and extremely hard working. Last year when I had all my health problems he stepped in and did a very good job, not calling me for help one time with questions. He may have pestered others, but he didn't bother me. When I got back to work, he was more than happy to turn the administrative part back over to me, I think he had all he wanted of records, phone calls, and complaints. But as usual, he toughed it out and made the best of a bad situation. If there's anyone I would have chosen to go down there and do the best of his abilities, I would have chosen him myself.

And that’s the way it might be………..Until next time, Tooldummy
