He was a real pretty yote Kart. If I hadn't left a big hole in him I'd have likely had him tanned. You can see I rolled him over before I took his photo.
I just play the wind when I hunt coyotes. I agree that there's just not much a guy can do to fool a coyote's nose. I've learned to set up so I can see and shoot downwind. In the open country I hunt it's not real difficult to do. I think that is one thing that has really helped my hunting. Not only do I pick off coyotes that circle downwind, I'm killing them rather than educating them. I educated an old female coyote with pups one time. It took me three years before I ever called another coyote on that farm. I swear she taught her pups to avoid screaming rabbits.
Thanks Weed. I think pound for pound a coyote is one of the toughest critters out there. They just don't like to die. Several season ago I shot a hard charging coyote at about 25 yards with a .22-250. It did an aireal reversal and hauled off into the brush. The snow looked like an axe murder had occurred. I tracked that coyote through thick brush for nearly a mile before it got dark. I came back the next day and picked up its trail again. I ended up following blood drops for another mile across an open cornfield before I finally found the coyote dead in the cornfield with snow drifted against it. My shot had entered its chest at an angle then exited in front of its shoulder leaving a fist size hole. Missed the heart and lungs completely. Took it nearly two miles to bleed out.

Good hunting y'all .. Coyote 6974

He's easy to track.. Leaves dead coyotes wherever he goes..
