Looks like this 6.8 SPC is probably going to be a close in weapon. I shot up all of my SSA ammo, then reloaded the cases with 32 grains of H335, and used Winchester primers. I rezeroed an inch high at 100 yards with 0 misfires, then took the rifle hunting this morning. I waited for the snow to stop before I headed out this morning so it was just after 8 AM when I got to where I intended to call. As I walked along the fencerow leading to my stand I spotted coyote that had stood up from its bed in the cornfield south of the fencerow. I dropped to my knee and raised the rifle to see the coyote looking directly at me. Knowing I was busted, I decided to take a shot at the coyote. I figured him at about 250 yards, so I held about 4 inches over his back and sent out a 90 grainer. I scored a clean miss but must have been close as he kicked it into high gear and stretched it all out headed toward the woods. So much for that planned stand. Last I saw that coyote he was trotting around the corner of the woods about a quarter mile away. When I got home I looked up some ballistic data on the 6.8 shooting a 90 grain Sierra running at 2750 FPS. Looks like I should have held about 11 inches high rather than four. I'm used to my .243 Winchester dropping 9 inches at 300 yards rather than 15. Ohh well at least I didn't educate that one to calls.

Yea Widow I was curious to see how much different this would be than the .223's. Not much difference at all really. I'm really happy it's functioning well so far. I'd read several posts on other sites about feeding problems with certain magazines, and other things. I checked my fired brass from my reloads and have found no issues at all with it. I've also read of blown primers and other pressure issues with hotter 6.8 SPC ammo.

Baldy I hope you get the new rifle up and running here soon. I've heard good things about WOA barrels. Is yours a Mid length, or a Carbine length?

Good hunting y'all.. Coyote 6974

He's easy to track.. Leaves dead coyotes wherever he goes..
