Well Thursday morning was a perfect morning to be in the woods hunting. It didn't matter if it was for coyotes or deer. I decided to deer hunt so at first light I was lounging in my stand 25 feet up a big sycamore tree.
I've been waiting on a nice buck and have passed on several smaller bucks over the past 3 weeks. I figured though that I'd take a doe for meat if one were to give me a shot.
At around 8:15 I spotted an anterless deer headed toward the opening my stand overlooks. As it came in it went behind some brush giving me a chance to stand and draw my bow. When it came out from behind the brush into my shooting lane I lip squeeked and stopped it 20 yards in front of me. There was a branch hanging down that covered the deers head but I had a perfect open shot into its vitals. The shot was dead on with the arrow completely penetrating both lungs. It exited and buried itself in the ground. When hit, the deer ran about 10 yards, stopped and looked around. It then ran in a circle before it went down 10 yards behind the spot where I shot it.
After leaving it lay for 15 or 20 minutes I climbed down and walked over to where it was laying in the tall grass. I grabbed a rear leg to drag i't into the open and saw that I'd shot a male deer. It was a button buck known as bambi.
He field dressed at about 90 pounds. He's going to be real good eating.
Now it's a big boy or bust.
Good hunting y'all.. Coyote 6974
