I guess most of you have heard about Hurricane Ike coming through. The company I work for sent crews to Louisiana and then on to Texas. One of the guys that
help me here at the shop went with them to help out however he could and deliver fuel, etc. I guess from what I am hearing this one is as bad or maybe even
worse than Catrina. They are in Beaumont, TX now, I'm not sure where all they have been up until now though. I guess they got down there with hardly
anything. Pretty low on fuel and supplies, and hardly any accomodations. Very few motel rooms, hardly any food. And no electricity, that's why we were
there in the first place.
One of the grocery stores down there heard there were power crews with no food and no place to go eat, so the manager drove over and told the guys they could have a freezer full of meat before it thawed out and spoiled. So my helper went and got some. Then someone else heard that they didn't have any way of cooking, so he brought a big gas smoker over. My helper (Russell) was nominated camp cook. So for the next few days he cooked for about 120 to 150 guys! Besides deliver fuel and whatever else he did. Some people couldn't take the conditions and came home after a while, but this guy (Russell) not only took care of himself, but a bunch of others. So yeh, I'm pretty proud of this guy!
