Over the 8 or 9 years that I've been calling predators I've only called in a single red fox. I actually walked up and spooked that one off an
unfrozen water hole, then I came back about 30 minutes later and called him in and shot him.
I was calling at the fishing club pit this evening and just as it was getting to dark to see, a fox charged out of the brush and ran right to my call. I had
the call sitting in a small bush and by the time I got my rifle on the fox it was behind the bush with my call in it. No shot there. The fox realized something
wasn't right and took off across an open area. I had a running shot that I missed. I wasn't too upset though since I really didn't want to shoot it
anyway. I suppose shooting was just habit. It was really good to see a fox come in. There don't seem to be many of them left around my area.
